In order to enhance the recruitment of manpower in the areas of science and technology, the Southern Denmark Region envisages itself as becoming a Science Region. This means that the 22 municipalities within the region are all required to become science municipalities in the sense that they have an active strategy within the area of science education. This has led to the Southern Denmark Region hiring help from a Danish Science Communication consultant to help the municipalities turn this strategy into reality.

The SAILS partners under the leadership of staff in CASTeL, DCU, are currently gathering information about the status of inquiry in partner countries. This research is focused on three main questions; the status of inquiry in national/regional curricula across Europe, the degree to which inquiry is incorporated in (in-service, pre-service) teacher education and the specific skills and competencies that are been developed by teaching through inquiry in specific countries.
